I have just retired from my job six months ago. At first I was happy since I had much free time and could do anything I wanted. I met up with my old friends, had tea together and that was fun. Not like before, I seldom travel because I don't like visiting new places alone. Yes, I am single again. I haven't married since my late wife passed away several years ago due to an illness.
However, as time passed by and with nothing else to do, I started to feel boring. Probably it is due to my staying alone. My two children have grown up and they are independent. The elder one is married and the younger one is still single but working abroad. Sometimes I wish I were working again so that I have things to occupy my boring time.
Yesterday morning I was awakened by my mobile phone. I hadn't heard that ring tone for ages. It was a tone, 'What a wonderful World', I assigned for my boss' mobile phone number. I got up from my bed, glanced at the clock and answered the phone. It was 9 am.
"Hello Sam, how are you? And where are you?" Vincent, my boss, inquired.
"Good morning Vincent. I'm at home. What can I do for you?" I replied.
"I just received your practicing certificate from the authority. Are you interested to work again?" He asked.
"Well, I ... let me think about it first." I said.
"Okay, once you make up your mind, let me know."
"Yes Sir, I'll do that."
Well, wasn't it the best thing to have happened to me? I complained of boredom and to work again would fix it, albeit a gain financially, too. It took me an hour to make up my decision. I sent a text message confirming I wanted to work again via my mobile phone to my boss. Two minutes later he replied to say his assistance would take care of me. I would have to do my medical check up and attend certain refresher courses before commencing work.
To work again gave me a feeling of being given a new lease of life.
